Defibrillators & AEDs

Having a defibrillator in your workplace could potentially one day save a life. Whether you have a large workforce, or you run a public-facing business with lots of customers visiting on a daily basis, if you’re looking to get serious about health & safety in your working environment, then it could be time to consider investing in an AED.

An AED, otherwise known as an Automated External Defibrillator, provides a life saving high energy electric shock straight to the heart of someone who is experiencing cardiac arrest. It is the electric shock itself which is called ‘defibrillation’ and it is a crucial moment in trying to save the life of someone whose heart has stopped.

Defibrillators are cleverly designed so that literally anyone can use them, they are simple to use and come with clear step by step instructions. Whilst it is beneficial to have at least one appointed first aider (or more, dependent on the amount of staff you have in total.) in your workplace, who would be formally trained on how to operate an AED, they are designed to deliver a shock only if it is actually needed. It’s impossible to deliver a shock on someone whose heart is still beating.

Not only are our defibrillators a sensible addition to the workplace, but they’re also beneficial in the community too. Whether you decide to keep one in your local village hall, corner shop, church or even in an old telephone box – quite often communities fundraise together to make an AED available to the local community.

Once you’ve purchased your defibrillator, we’d highly encourage you to register it on the British Heart Foundation’s website The Circuit. This online network provides an overview of exactly where in the UK you can find this vital piece of life-saving equipment.
